Sewing Machines Generated by Artificial Intelligence

AI Generated Sewing Machine with Octopus

Artificial Intelligence is a hot topic lately, and with good reason - it is technology with practical, bizarre, and frightening possibilities, and it is certain to impact society in profound ways. But we need not get into that for now. I just wanted to try generating AI art pertaining to vintage sewing machines.

The app I'm using to create these images is called Starryai. It is available free for mobile as well as a web-based app. For the sake of this article, right now I am going to feed the web app the following text to see what it generates:

gothic woman using a vintage sewing machine, 1800s, determined, vivid color, mechanical, darkness and light, high detail, deep relief, joyful, surprised

Within minutes, four images are generated. Take note of the machines' designs. I also notice that the AI often places the human in an odd position related to the sewing machine:

So that was an example of how quickly you can create interesting (and weird) images by just typing a bit of description. I spent time tweaking language and trying different things, and here are all my favorite AI images in no particular order. If you make some, please submit them to us on our Facebook page and we'll share them.

This is one of my initial results when I began experimenting with the terms "octopus" and "vintage sewing machine.

For each one of the above images, I trashed several others in an effort to keep only the ones I liked. Generating these is fun, and it's an unusual form of creativity in that you are trying to "tell" the AI what you want to see. You can also upload a photo to sort of "urge" the AI in a particular direction. See what sort of results you get and let us know!

Finally, for good measure, here is Abraham Lincoln on a jetski:
